With the artistic mentoring of his brother-in-law, Robert constantly strove to elevate his work from simple photographs of animals, to statements of his own personal creative vision — a difficult challenge in wildlife photography.

Through the incredible images Robert left behind after his tragic death on May 19th, 2007, we can continue to understand how much he loved his family, flying and photography and how important the natural world was to him.

Robert, you will be missed.

Robert Boardman was born in 1967 in rural Nebraska. Growing up immersed in the outdoorsman culture of America’s heartland, Robert developed a deep appreciation and understanding of wildlife and their behavior. It wasn’t until he accompanied his brother-in-law, wildlife artist, Dustin Van Wechel, on a photo reference gathering trip to Grand Teton NP, that Robert’s career as a photographer began.

Since that time, Robert dedicated himself to capturing compelling images of wildlife in their natural habitat, motivated by the endless challenges and excitement nature photography provides.
