"Spectacle"
Recent estimates suggest there are about 375 whooping cranes living in the wild, up from only 21 birds in 1941. At 5 ft. tall, this endangered species is the tallest bird in North America. During the 2006 sandhill crane migration, I was fortunate to photograph two whooping cranes nearly every day for over a week. I was excited to have my children, Megan and Brandon, with me as I captured this unique photograph of a whooping crane along the Platte River near our home in Nebraska.
