"Spring Fling"
Before taking up photography, I had virtually ignored the sandhill crane migration that takes place each spring near my home in Nebraska. Each year, roughly a half-million cranes roost in the shallow waters of the Platte River. During their nearly month-long stay, they rest and put on weight to provide the energy needed to complete their migration north. I spent about two weeks photographing cranes in the spring of ’06 and captured this image of cranes “dancing” on the Platte before they left the roost early one morning.
